OnePlus Open Features News
The OnePlus Open is getting a lot of attention and speculation before it even comes out officially. Leaked renders and information give us a better look at the device. OnePlus's promotional video from earlier this month gave us a sneak peek at the device. Now that the renders have been leaked, we can see how it looks and what specs it has.
Views of the phone show that the OnePlus Open will come in two colors: a fake leather black and a glass green.
In the background, it will have Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which fits with earlier reports of a launch soon. But there might be a problem: Qualcomm is planning to release the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 soon after, which would put the OnePlus Open in a tough spot since it has an older engine.
The OnePlus Open is said to cost $1,699 in the US, which is also something to keep in mind. This price is only $100 less than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5's start price, which makes it a less affordable choice, especially since the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is about to come out.
The phone should have up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of storage. It has a 6.31-inch screen on the outside and a 7.8-inch BOE-supplied bendable main screen. There is a main camera with 48 MP, an ultrawide camera with 48 MP, and a 3x optical zoom camera with 64 MP.
It's likely that the OnePlus Open will be sold in the US and Europe, but there's one big exception. The phone will not be released in Germany because parent company Oppo and Nokia are still arguing over a patent there.
The OnePlus Open is set to be officially unveiled on October 19. It will be interesting to see how it does in the market for folding smartphones, given that it has a different chipset and costs more than other foldable phones.
OnePlus started getting people excited about the Open earlier this month with a promotional video that showed the phone from some views but not all of them. The video also hid what looked like a big camera island on the back of the phone.
A source we usually trust gave us a ton of leaked renders of the upcoming foldable smartphone today. These models leave nothing to the imagination and show every single detail. And yes, there is a huge camera island on the back.
The images show that the OnePlus Open will come in two colors: a glass green and a black faux leather finish. Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset will power the phone, which makes sense since reports say it will come out this month. The Open will be in a tough spot, though, because Qualcomm will release the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 just a few days after that.
It's even more important now that we know the price might be $1,699 in the US, which is only $100 less than what the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 cost when it first came out. The Open can't be put in a cheaper category on the market to get rid of the need for a CPU that will almost immediately be out of date.
The OnePlus Open will have up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, 256GB of storage, a 6.31-inch outer screen, and a 7.8-inch movable main screen from BOE. It's said to be public on October 19. There have been reports that it will have a main camera with 48 MP, an ultrawide camera with 48 MP, and a 3x optical zoom camera with 64 MP.
The phone will at least go to the US and Europe. It won't go to Germany, though, because the parent company, Oppo, is still in a patent battle with Nokia there.
